BIRMINGHAM – UAB football got another stud defensive lineman today when Antavious Elder, out of Morgan County High (GA) committed to play for the Blazers. The 6’3″ 260 pound lineman announced his commitment on social media:
Elder had interest from different programs and reported offers from: UAB, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), and Middle Tennessee. He played on both sides of the ball last season for the Bulldogs but was definitely a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line. Last season Elder had 60 tackles, 4 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles. He helped lead Morgan County to a 7-4 record last season.
Blazer Victory co-host and former UAB Blazers center, Darion Smith, provided the following evaluation of Elder:

Elder is a guy who caught passes and had powerful runs resulting in touchdowns. Using a unique blend of athleticism, size, and strength he is also a terror on defense. Elder possesses the unique potential to be a next level gem if he commits to the process and is coached up well. Another great find by this coaching staff.
UAB’s defensive line coach, Miguel Patrick, continues to do a great job recruiting for the Blazers in the state of Georgia. Patrick also landed the commitment of defensive lineman Kyle Moseley last week which you can read HERE. Elder becomes the fifth player out of the state of Georgia to commit to play for UAB in 2024.
